My Leap of Faith

My first blog post! This venture has been, as we say in the South, a long time coming! The words have been in me for so many years, but my technology handicaps have limited me to stacks of notebooks and random pages of words on scattered papers. I never said I was organized. Armed with the knowledge that God is big enough to make it happen and that my daughters love their mom enough to help her, I took the leap of faith. More about that on my next post!

Why do I write? First of all, I love to read, love to write, love the beauty of carefully crafted poetry, books, and written words, especially THE WORD. I had been a Christian for quite some time before I began seriously studying scripture. It changed my life and brought power to my walk with Christ that I had never realized was missing. I want others to discover the treasures I find in God’s Word. My closest friends will tell you- I can’t help but text them some new nugget I find in the Word because I am compelled to share what I am excited about. I don’t know where this journey will take me. I have Bible study and book ideas swimming in my head that I haven’t organized into print yet. Future Goals. The second reason I write is because writing is therapy. When I was seven years old, I discovered a book of poetry at our school library. I was entranced by the beauty of the words and painstakingly re-wrote every poem in the book on notebook paper so that I could keep my own copy of the words! I was a weird little kid. (As you see, not a lot has changed!) Soon I was writing my own poems, and I found that writing helped me sort through the emotions of growing up and discovering a relationship with God. My poems became my letters to God, and quite honestly, His letters to me. The third reason I write is to minister to others. Since words are my love language, they are also the way that I show love to others. Hand-written notes are a dying art, but I still enjoy sending hand-written notes to encourage the people in my life who have impacted me.

I have had the privilege to be involved in Bible studies with many precious women. Their friendships have encouraged me to put down deeper roots and desire to leave a godly legacy of faith. It was through my love of writing, studying God’s Word and of connecting with other women that the idea of Deeper Roots was born. My talented daughter Emery designed the perfect logo for me, highlighting my desire for deeper roots in Christ but also my love of the outdoors and particularly- trees. One of my happiest places to be is running on a path with the sunlight gleaming through the treetops while listening to praise music.

What will my blog look like? Typically, two posts per week. Lots of scripture, life issues, and encouragement. I will also be featuring guest bloggers because I know specific people who have wise words to share from their own personal experiences. My focus is on encouraging women, but guys are welcome too! In fact, I already have a guest blogger in mind who happens to be a dude. So, guys, don’t be afraid. We won’t be talking about sports bras and recipes too much! After a few initial posts, I will be doing a series on Thanksgiving, so don’t miss the rich truths about turning Thanksgiving into ThanksLIVING!
